CAMEO IS AN ONGOING SERIES FEATURING CANADIAN JEWELLERY ARTISTS. HERE, THEY SHARE THEIR LATEST THOUGHTS AND INSIGHTS, AND GIVE US A PEEK INTO THEIR PRACTICE.

CAMEO:

ANNE DAHL

Currently I explore fluidity and movement in metal through wearable jewellery.

Describe your current work/practice in one sentence.

Ephemerality, the lunar calendar, recording sounds.

What are three things/ideas that inspire you?

Sound art, sculpture, music, and horticulture.

What other things do you do besides your jewellery practice?

A series of rings each with a casette tape of the industrial sounds/process of creation which I recorded of myself in studio. I love to record audio of myself working in studio. I love to give a sensorial glimpse of the gritty process contrasted against such a dainty/fine object.

What is a favourite piece that you’ve made and why?

Avant-garde.

What word pops into your mind when you think of Canadian art jewellery?

I am working on a series of time based wearable objects. Objects that speak to ephemerality, banality, contemporary value, and the significance of touch in relation to the wear of an object over long periods of time.

What is coming up next for you?
