Describe your current work/practice in one sentence.

I like to create wearable and non-wearable objects that are mostly kinetic and playful.

Mechanisms When I see something mechanically move, it catches my mind and heart. And later when I am working on my piece, I use some of the mechanism I have seen to bring life to my piece. My goal is to make pieces that interact with viewers, provoking a certain feeling, mostly playfulness.

Techniques Whenever I encounter or learn a new technique, I like to stretch it to see how far it can go. I do this mostly when I have spare time. I love hands-on working, when I do this type of work, I get most creative, and I am having so much fun. Usually I end up learning a lot about the technique, and telling myself I will never do this again.

Nature I was raised in the countryside of Korea, and it got me liking nature. I like to make pieces that mimics a movement in nature through mechanisms or metal forming techniques.

What are three things/ideas that inspire you?

I do have some hobbies. I like to swim, free dive, hike, and take photos. I recently got into growing plants. I am also a part-time baker, I like to cook and make drinks. One of my favourite things to do is to go to home hardware stores to look at mechanisms.

What other things do you do besides your jewellery practice?

My favorite piece that I've made is the butterfly. I am still surprised that I came up with the idea. It is very simple, yet mimics the movement of the butterfly very well. It is also the best seller of my items so far.

What is a favourite piece that you’ve made and why?

Bigger market
Compared to Korea, where I am from, Canada seems to have a bigger art jewellery market, which makes it good for the jewellers. With the bigger market, I find more variety in style as well.

What word pops into your mind when you think of Canadian art jewellery?

I am planning to do an MFA in the near future, but I’m not exactly sure where yet. Preferably where I can focus only on my work and nothing else.

What is coming up next for you?
